We made certain qualities within us predominant & some utterly dormant. This configuration influences our judgement, understanding, character and makes it easy for us to gravitate to certain people, places, things.
The heart is affected by all that, and subsequently sets the body to vibrate at the same frequency. Thus, it is of the utmost importance that the heart is sound; we shouldn't corrupt it. What comes in should always be good.
