Bleak Day

gerrylegister

The world in which I cannot hold you close enough

Passes by like the misty wind in the wide gray sky,

Your shadow is a myth that rises with each breath

And leave my heart drawn closer to melancholy.

The promenade, this winter day, stretched me apart

With the shale of tweets, I hear the cold birds call,

Rise and fall, the grating waters rushes to my feet

Seeking out the answer I fear must befall.

All the ancient stones lay along the shoreline bare

And seagulls circling cry out with gaunt crack voices,

That ache in the ears and sang bewildered in the open air

Songs to crush the bleak day and light up sad faces.

I cannot get close enough to wipe away a single tear,

Or caress the careless crush I have known in weakness,

That has made a new world so beautiful to share

The joy and bliss found in such passion of your kiss.

Fear rises with strength rolling out from my soul

Stretched along the promenade lifting the wiry mist,

There is no burning left in retreat from that world

Let it fall from this bleak day into the abyss.
