A Late Night Drive To Nowhere

NB

If I could just dissolve into the night

Become a part of it

Be its fragrance

A shadow without a name

& dance with the distant lights

With the roadside whispers

To pass the time

All the years of a waiting game

If I could just whisper to the skies

Long 'fore they take me

& they redirect the message

To the paper clouds you see

I'd hush all winds without melodies

I'd silence the big cities

& the busy traffic

'til you can share the sounds of night with me

But maybe I already got so far

I don't hear the world anymore

I can't sense it weeping with false joy

I just think I'm not there

I dance with the lights that caress you

With the roadside whispers

Of faceless passengers

On a late night drive to nowhere

N.B.
