Counting the Days

notapoet

I start this first day

Away form my heart

And try to survive

These next seven days apart

I try not to think

To dwell or to brew

But pray for the quick arrival

Of day number two

Second day of my wait

Is much like the first

But thankful to be

Much closer to day three

It’s day number three

And I'm saddened much more

Please come to me quick

Precious day number four

Four days of this torture

I can barely survive

Please save me from my loneliness

Merciful day number five

Day five you came at last

But my loneliness you did not fix,

I am counting on you

Blessed day number six

The sixth day of my sentence

Finds me discouraged and blue

But thankful that it’s still not day number two

So with patience and hope

I pray up to heaven

And am grateful to god

Tomorrow is day number seven

Day seven comes at last

And I no longer feel weak

And give thanks to the heavens

For hearing the prayer I did speak

So as I hold you again

On this seventh day of our parting

Inside of my heart

I feel the sadness departing

So time is our keeper

And heaven our guide

I would wait an eternity

Just to be by your side.
