I was Alice

anoldwoman

I was Alice

I fell down the rabbit hole - willingly.

But I didn't know it was a rabbit hole

And I didn't know it was an illusion

I was lonely and needed love and it was offered.

I was quickly caught.

But I didn't know it was an illusion.

The years passed and love grew.

I saw friendship, camaraderie, companionship

I gave my heart.

I thought it would always be.

But it was an illusion.

His face clear of guile, no hint of deceit,

"Listen", he says.  "I've nearly always had a primary woman

and another one or two that I saw less often."

Have I become the "other" woman?

"Pride has nothing to do with it.  Pleasure is all that counts,"

he whispers as we couple again.

"Do you really want to give this up?"

"No, I don't," I respond.

But even that was an illusion.

As he tried to convince me to continue,

but this time without the illusion,

I awoke.

I am no longer Alice down the rabbit hole.

I am Sleeping Beauty who has awakened from a lovely dream.

It was all an illusion.

And now I can start to lilve again.
