Words

v_s

To the simple eye, they were just words,

but to her broken heart,

they were the cure.

You are loved and important, they said.

Or had she just misread?

A strange feeling arose,

like never before.

It seemed like love,

but how could she know?

The simple words meant so much more,

more than anyone could know.

She carried the words with her day and night.

Always keeping them in mind and sight.

The words, to the earth they kept her tethered.

The words, the only thing keeping her together.

And when the pain was just too much,

the words, with their delicate, soft touch

warmed her heart inside and out,

They were the only words she thought about.
