Tree At My Backyard

rrodriguez

Tree at my backyard, backyard tree,

My faith strengthens when night comes to me;

I start to meditate about your

leaves, branches, roots, when I see

Aged leaves scattered on the ground

First they were green, now they’re brown;

Like the ephemeral joys of friends

Once here, now they’re gone.

You stand at my yard all day
Your tired arms begin to fall;

birds climb and sing, but not for long

– just like people they come & go

What many do not see
Are your most profound roots;

Only in silence I look hearing you whisper

Hold-on, never let life go.

My tree, you have been beaten and tossed,
And if you have seen me when I wept,
You have seen me when I was deeply stressed
And all but my faith seem lost.

You and I standing tall faring the weather,

Me, I'll tread securely

through hills and valleys

barefooted and faith-filled, stronger.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I wrote this poem to dedicate it to my niece who is suffering from cancer. She enjoys sitting at her backyard looking at a tree and meditating while looking at it. Most of the poem reveals her thoughts and insights of what she is going through. Her faith is strong and she's a fighter. Please give me your comments and suggestions.

  • Fay Slimm.

    A positive and faith-filled outlook to end this introspective time of observing a tree - - you niece must find such tender care in these poignant lines as she journeys forward - - a moving read.

    I believe God is in the trees. Interesting how the speaker relates to the tree for all they have in common. Both are firmly rooted. Your niece is in my thoughts and prayers. Nicely done.

    Tell her to keep on gazing at Mother Nature. She heals us all!
