Dream within a dream

Middlearth

You listened last night,
You looked at me while I spoke.
I dreamt a memory ,
And thought to share it when I woke.

"Do you remember the moon?
On that other shore far away,
It looked like the moon tonight"
Was what I wanted to say.

But when I opened my eyes
To remind you what we'd seen,
I knew the memory of you beside me
Was just a dream within a dream.

Thankyou written a while ago but resonates with me at the moment.

What a neat way of describing the inner workings of our mind. We wish so much to return to what was, that our dreams provide that for us, despite reality.
