Growing up, I always seemed so awkward to girls,
Because of the way I looked, the way I dressed, the way I talked, the way I walked,
But I remember pops telling me "Son, there's a lid for every pot"
It was in 4th grade when I first started to think girls were cute,
After I found out that cooties didn't exist
There was this one girl that sat in the back of the class,
Secretly I had a crush on her, but secretly everybody knew that
One day, she came up to me, and she was angry,
She yelled out "you're ugly, I don't like you"
I was so embarrassed that she put me on the spot,
But I remember pops telling me "Son, there's a lid for every pot"
It was in 9th grade when I noticed girls both physically and mentally, and what it took to be considered "popular"
I remember there was this really pretty girl that I had 3 or 4 classes with,
She was considered to be one of the "cool" people in my grade,
Back then, fashion was a factor for your status,
I tried to ask her out, but she told me "Sorry, but I only date guys that rock Jordans and curly tops"
I can't lie, I was a little hurt when she blew down my shot,
But I remember pops telling me "Son, there's a lid for every pot"
It was sophomore year of college when I figured out what girls wanted from a guy,
What they valued and what they hated
There was this girl in my biology class that I had a thing for,
She seemed to be like the whole package: gorgeous, ambitious, smart and goofy
One day we had an interesting conversation about relationships,
I asked her "what type of guys do you like?"
She said "I like em hood and thuggish cuz my last guy was too nice"
I wasn't gonna try to be something that I'm not,
But I remember pops telling me "Son, there's a lid for every pot"
