Kiskadee

Nalini

Kiskadee

My little kiskadee sitting on a tree

Outside my bedroom window

At the break of dawn calling me

Out of my sleep, what joy

To hear your meep, meep

I rub my eyes to take a peek

At my black and yellow kiskadee

Who cared not that I was asleep

My tropical alarm, in majestic splendor

I am awake and ready to greet the day
