something there is

william mcgreal

something there is

something there is
in the pastel blur of color
of you racing with
letters to post in hand

something there is
in the prismed shards of
laughter you weave through
the shadows of your friends

something there is
in the clear staccato of your
worn leather boots
signaling your unshakable will

and though i believed my heart
knew everything to know
about who i am in this world
and what is and is not chance

something there is
new found within my breast
now awakens whenever
you come into view

something there is
in every cell waiting to
unleash its sacred purpose
to seek and to find you

something there is
in me that has loved you
by hidden and sacred design
too long silent and still

something there is
in having found you
and remembering with joy
i love to sing and dance

  • Comment from author about the poem: I seriously wasn't intending to post this. It rested in a handful of versions in my notebook, the ribbon slipped into pages far beyond these verses. But that is what this site is for, is it not? To post various styles as we each sort through lines to find our voice. And though this is certainly a different voice for me, it came from some place authentic enough that it has found its way here and I so I give its due. I look forward to see what emerges next.

I think you're lucky to have found this. It's brilliant. Save it for sure, and maybe, reach back to that voice every once in a while. It's a great love poem.
The twist of phrase "Something there is" draws in the reader. The poem runs through many emotions felt, when one is in love. There is also a sense of the other and her influences on friends and you, causing a remembrance that you "love to sing and dance." Yes, I'd say you must retain this and build upon it. - Phil A.
