The shore is calling

brandon k f

I'm here on a log facing the sea
The wind is strong and the waves are loud
Sea birds nestle on rocks among the swelling water as they crash and rumble like bob tails
I can see the shoreline, stretching on as far as my vision goes
And I think to my self
I can just follow the shore and keep walking
My friend and his wife walk hand and hand, the breeze caressing them as they caress each other
I long for that kind of touch
The touch of cool hands that softly stroke my face and rub my scalp
Like the way the waves embrace every grain of sand on the shore
I could keep walking so I don't have to see those two
I'm seething with jealousy and aching with longing
To keep going and fade into the horizon until even the sand
Forgets my damn name,
And the sun bleaches my bones
My brother walks in the distance
He's as alone as I am
He tells me the shore is calling us
We can keep walking
Until crows pick at my flesh and crabs and sea lice nestle in our clothes
That can solve all our problems
All the debt, all pangs of loneliness and paranoid stares
The smell of seaweed and brine is so pungent yet so alluring, I can feel my eyes turn in my skull
I can see the marine layer coming in, like a woman ready to greet me with a soft smile
The shore is calling me
My name carried on the tides,
Imploring me to follow
Begging and pleading and crying with the squawking of the gulls
The shore is calling me
I toss out my cigarette and walk back to the car
