For years had I wandered,
content and without care.
For in those days,
I held no notion of pain.
Then, as I stumbled through a field,
I happened across an immaculate flower,
Of incomprehensible color and design.
As it swayed to and fro in the wind,
waves of emotion exploded within me.
“At last!” I foolishly cried
“My meaning has been found.
No longer shall I travel
with an apathetic frame of mind.”
For years did I wander,
with these emotions in full bloom.
And happily did I accept them,
for, with no fear of the future
nor remembrance of the past,
what more was there?
However, even the enduring oak will fade.
From dust to life, and from life to dust.
The cycle continues indefinitely,
to the ominous tick of eternity’s clock.
Of course, this too afflicts the flower,
the most beautiful and fleeting form life.
It blooms but a few times in it’s life,
until it one day, does not.
And thus, proceeds to fade into time.
For years, did I wander,
these thoughts tucked away.
Until one day, I again found myself,
in a flowing field of my life’s past.
Fueled by nostalgia, I searched.
One side of the field, to another.
Yet, nowhere could it be found.
Old and tired, I decided to lay.
It was there, in the field of eternity,
that I too, faded away.

- Comment from author about the poem: I wrote this, not because i'm the best poet in the world (i'm a sophomore computer science major), but instead, I wrote it because I needed a way to display my emotions. I have been going through a really rough patch in my life, and writing this has been extremely cathartic to me. I hope that you enjoy it, I know it is not the best poem in the world, but it means a lot to me.
