And of the Broken Heart

Baylee

She spoke in metaphors

and he in shallow words

But when his final word was spoken

the line drawn

the call dropped

It’s over

Her mind stays awake

writing all the poems he will never understand

Her body

exhausted

soaked in the downpour of her tears

she allows the shadows to swallow her whole

Within the blackness

of a restless sleep

her subconscience

balances the chemical equation

of a broken heart,

failing.

The elements

creating a hopeless complication

her body stands, leaves the room

mind shut down

she searches for an answer

watercolor painting the way

into an endless abyss

of questions

So when her body returns

memories having saturated her bones

she sobs

as one by one

each reflection dies

and she grieves the loss

of the millions of tiny stars

that blink out

forever.
