Wonder

Baylee

Isn’t it wonderful

how we can see the blizzard

but not feel its wrath?

How still water hugs you

welcomes you into its grasp,

yet the need for air always a threat?

What if you could capture all the stars in the sky

and place the delicate things in a mason jar?

What if stars were really no bigger than a speck in the sky

Would we care so much about them?

And what if these stars

were all the emotions

focused into the people around you?

Would you still want to capture them all in a mason jar?

If you were to lay in the grass

and wonder all these things

you would listen to the crickets as they sing to you the answers

in a language unknown

But what if

the crickets ceased their song

to listen to your reply?

And when morning rises,

you rise with it

Spreading your wings

and taking off

Experiencing freedom

for the first time.
