Ten pieces of ice

Edthepoet

One ice cube hits the glass..
"I don't need this shit right now, it's 2am"
Two ice cubes in the glass..
"Oh please, You're just a fucking barman, quit acting like you're out there saving the world"
Three ice cubes...
"In that world baby I am their saviour, the gatekeeper between the excruciating mundane..& the sweet release of intoxication"
Four ice cubes...
"Sweet release..is that what you're providing those bar skanks with? while I'm here playing housewife, trapped in this shitty one bedroom flat, playing fetch with the fucking cat"
Five pieces..
"Those "bar skanks" tips pay for this shitty flat and that fucking cat"
Six Pieces..
"& incase you forgot, we met in that exact same bar, and I seem to remember you went a whole lot further than tipping me on the first night we met"
Seven...
"Remember...ok lets talk about remember..remember how you told me that working that bar was a side job..that you'd gone back to college to study psychology...there you stood looking like a council estate James Dean, your arm wrapped in foil from a new tattoo, smoother than milk on silk..remember that guy? Where the fuck did that guy go?
Eight
"That guy..that guy had a daughter..."
Nine
".....So did I you fucking coward....."
Ten
"........Fuck this I'm going for a drink.."
10 pieces of ice fly through the air, smashing into the glass, smashing off of the wall.
"......She was my daughter to"

This is a very unique poem, and I absolutely loved it. You can feel the tension and sadness in each line.
