Making Amends

AuburnScribbler

I have so far in this life

Been too polite and patient,

A continuous stream of strife

Creating something pleasant,

Now I have a new notion,

To take more than I give,

I drink a more selfish potion,

So in shadows I’ll no longer live,

I owe this change to myself,

As ruinous is this servitude,

Feeling like an old book on shelf,

Living a cold social solitude,

So smile instead of a frown,

I’ll justly wear on face,

Proudly adorning my new crown,

Instead of scowling, I am Grace,

Some control back on my side,

Now I can be one that judges,

With new confidence I can find,

Punishments to those who nudges,

I’ll take care in these deeds,

But others will have to see,

These actions done are my needs,

Thus interference there cannot be,

Play I’ll do as much as you,

To flesh out my contentment,

As I feel I’ve paid my dues,

To escape cerebral containment,

At last, some happiness is obtained,

Mental strain has found its end,

You deserve this me, no more pain,

I told you, that I’ll make amends.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem is about... Me! Well it is about patting yourself on the back, and saying that you really do deserve a slice of happiness. In life you find yourself being too kind to people who have a dilute sense of gratitude, and although it can be hard for some people, you have to find a balance between selflessness and selfishness. Hope you enjoy.

I know what you mean! To be 'one's self' enough, but not like some horrible selfish monster. A fine write AS.
