The Face

Jamminblu

Along a candle lit path I walk
I came upon a man
who stood there but did not talk

Our eyes met in a locked stare
a lifeless face
he had an emotionless glare

The lines in his face
told of a life full of pain
dark circles under his eyes
that seemed to stare off into a distance
lost in time, lost in some other place
tear stained cheeks
remnant drops of his cries

Upon his face a saddened look
he reached out his hand to mine
I shuddered as our finger tips touched
his were hard and cool like a running brook

Our hands fell to our side
tears began to once again fall
escape from this prison called life he was nowhere nearer
he slowly turned and walked away
left behind his soul trapped in his body
like that of the man in the mirror
