1,2,3...

hidden.shine

First,
you must look within yourself.
Peel away the wallpaper and
Let your cracks show;

It's time to remove your bandaids.

Second,
Get comfortable with the stares;
Imperfections are so often criticized,
But you must see that they are all raw beauty;

It's time to let yourself grow.

Third,
Bruises heal and so do scars,
So let them...
Sometimes that means they will linger and maybe
Not even fade, but that's ok.

Fourth,
Be kind.
Be kind to yourself and
To all others;

It's time for the world to change.

Fith,
Realize you're going to not like the same things after awhile
And
After a while,
You may find you are interested in some foreign ideas and people and places and....
You must take it all in, but be careful,
Because the world takes advantage of
Ignorance;

Don't let it steal your curiosity and passions.

One more thing...
Guard your heart with a lock and key;
You can open it to whomever you want,
But remember to share your soul, never give yourself to another entirely.

  • Comment from author about the poem: My mental state is becoming increasingly dark since this morning so I decided to publish an old, uplifting work of mine. Lately, my friends have been cutting me off and I just made a new one, before summer ended and now he's ignoring me and I understand he's enduring a depression and that he is suicidal, but I just don't know what to do. If I am to be honest with this audience of strangers, I joined this poetry site to get back into a love of mine. It was a commitment and I'm proud I haven't given up, but another reason I joined is because my poetry is therapeutic. It's a part of my soul and to share it, is terrifying sometimes. It can be intimate and revealing, but I hope that it impacts someone. That my words may help someone. Anyone. That's why I'm here and the fact that I have been losing all of my "friends" makes this a bit harder to Comitt to. I'm losing motivation and sleep... perhaps I shouldn't share this, but for any one who cares to read my poetry, I hope you find truth within my words. For those that read it and comment, I thank you for your time and comments. So far, they've all been helpful and lovely to accept. For those who care to share your thoughts about this poem and this description, feel free. I welcome you to. If you'd like to offer advice, I would also greatly appreciate that, as well, but reading my poem is enough. Thank you for your everlasting support (: enjoy!
