The Things We Do Not Say

Thornton Perkins

Her stomach grasped the rail, hands strained
While his body slipped away,
Tears streamed down her face completely drained.
He fought for every day.

She was unsure what to do,
All he wanted was more time,
The silence echoing was new.
His monitor gave its final chime.

She clung to his body seeming lifeless,
He clasped to something he wanted to confess,
Unfurling his hand her cries were suppressed.
She would have said yes.
