What all you cowards so foolish call foolishness

You who have nothing to say of some vigor or vim

That lanterns belittled, shine out nonetheless

So brightened, when cast in the shadow death

That the few who, beleaguered, so bravely ride on

That demons might quickly their grievance redress

That the foe, in his fear, might leave it at armistice

That, broken and lamed, the armies of light will live on

Their faith, never shaken, still firm in belief-

That the just will survive, come storm or what may

All you cowards now bewildered, look, and see

What you call such ‘foolishness’ is the highest bravery,

And you’re lesser than the lowest scum to call it mystery

I am reminded of what a college classroom of today many of whom demand a safe space when their ideas are challenged , what would be their reaction to watching real live footage of the landing at Normandy including the thousands of brave young men who gave their lives for the freedom they enjoy today. Enjoyed.
