Mr Nice Guy

Edthepoet

I dropped my conscience
Like an atom bomb
On the man I once was

I didn't burn the bridge
I took a flame thrower to it
Now you try to swim across

Whoever you seek
I haven't been able
To reach
Since before my mind switched sides

There's only so much
One man can take
In a short period of time

I have regrets
I have my shame
With nobody to blame
The transition from
Boy to man is usually
A conditioning within
the rat race
Yet every once in a while
its born of
the flames of rage.

Great poem. Unfortunately we cannot control the growing up part. It just happens, sometimes in fits and spurts, and we have to try to make the best of it.
