Memories

theperksofbeingpoetic

Memories fill my head when I think of you

The way your hand felt against my waist

That feeling I got in my stomach when we held hands

And how our fingers we ever so tightly laced

Most of the memories are the bad ones though

That one night you punched the wall

Because I said "no" to your silly games

And that magical way you could make me feel so small

The memories never go away

Like the one were I told you I loved you more than anyone

But you just said "I know"

And in that moment I knew our relationship was emotionally done

Some memories are sweet like candy

When we went on "romantic" trips

And we fooled everyone that we were such a happy couple

But it was like our relationship was written and we were reading off the scripts

So the memories will never fade

Because they are a part of me

Just like you were

A beautiful, well written poem that, to me, kind of fell apart at the last line. Forgive me for critiquing, but you might consider just leaving out that last line. It breaks the rhythm and I believe the poem will stand on its own poignantly without it. You are a fine poet and I look forward to more of your work!

Exactly what I thought too, but I didn't know what to do so I just left it.
