Aftertaste

wordbyrdwriting

a woman layed on the floor

covered in tattoos and sores

drinking away her dreams

nothing is as it seems.

her eyes were once bright

but now they are filled with fright

as a familiar man enters her domain

because of him

she will never be the same.

his dark eyes survey the room

he is taken back by the view.

junkies shooting up in a corner

and a presumptuous woman wooing a loner

but something catches his eye

a familiar woman and her tattoo

memories of his lust swirl into view.

he remembers how her jet-black hair cascaded down her back

as he ferociously pushed her around like a maniac

her body was strong

but his mind was wrong.

through out the nights

she seemed to slowly disappear

sometimes he would reach out

to keep her near

while she hid her tears.

but suddenly, she was gone

and he pretended that he didn’t miss her

because she was only a body left for dessert.

with a loud crash, he was brought back to the present

only to be stunned by the less pleasant

shards of glass and gunshots echoed around

it was then that he knew

that there was little he could do

yet, he rushed to her aid

like he should have done a long time ago

but she seemed to be bleeding out from every vein.

with little gasps she whispered, “it’s okay, i understand this pain.”

he broke her heart

and didn’t even know

her aftertaste

will be his fatal blow.
