I hate poetry that always rhymes,
some foolish game of pantomime
designed to trick me into telling you
the way the thoughts in my head brew.
I do not like to share my thoughts,
although my conscience slowly rots,
and maybe that's because of how
I pity myself and raise my brow
at anyone who questions me,
assuming that they want to see
the things I try to hide from them,
like how my hand shakes when I hold a pen,
how I should've been in therapy at age eleven,
or how I'll never get to heaven
because I've failed too many times for that,
spending my time thinking I was fat
rather than focusing on one who needed me.
But it's too late now, don't you see?
And that's why I hate poetry;

- Comment from author about the poem: I thought the idea of semicolons was important to this poem because I wanted to point out that this is a place I used to be in, not one that I still live in, and that even when everything comes crashing down around you there is always that semicolon, or that way of continuing on and getting out.

Great passion in this thank you so much
thank you!
Interesting concept. Like it
Thank you 🙂
Rebecca, how can somebody who writes poetry so well, and rhymes even better, hate it? All I can say is feed that hate and keep on writing. You might eventually come to like it.
You know, for me, writing is not the scary part. The real scary part is to publish it.
Thank you. I have a love/hate relationship with poetry--I think I sometimes view it as a trap, and yet it often saves me when I am at my lowest. And I certainly agree that publishing can be terrifying! I hadn\'t shared a word of my work before yesterday. Thank you for your encouragement 🙂
Thank you for sharing!!!!
And now all this rhymes! Should I say 'horrible write' then?! heehee.
Those semi-colons can be an excuse for some folk to keep on waffling; they go on and on; they never stop - as I've done here! heehee.
