I played out my string,
I ran my race
My chaps are frayed,
but spurs in place
Still one horse to ride,
with saddle in hand
That last trail awaits,
—final sunset commands
(Villanova Pennsylvania: July, 2017)
If Only
If only to write the way
a new wave breaks
If only to write the way
a rainbow forms
If only to write the way
the moonlight calls
If only to write the way
a baby’s born
If only to write the way
the dawn explodes
If only to write the way
a mountain stares
If only to write the way
a rose unfurls
If only to write the way,
—God’s love we share
(Villanova Pennsylvania: July, 2017)
Fatherless And Alone
With every cold defeat
of the human spirit
The answers move deeper
within the polar arc
Victim to its wanton roaming
and endless chill
Questions left to wander,
—fatherless and alone
(Villanova Pennsylvania: April, 2013)
Heaven To Guide
Marry your will
unto your heart
The heavens to bless,
—and to guide
(Lansdale Pennsylvania: April, 2013)
Into The Light
Listening to Phil Collins sing ‘In the Air
Tonight,’ I mused:
“The figure eight of destruction, circles intertwine, two distinct but connected spheres, keeping the truth out, protective of what they both think they own, spewing oriental good tidings they don’t understand, mutually assured self-destruction, the one loop non-existent without the other, a sad commentary on what might have been, a yin & yang deception, trying to explain everything within its balance, forgetting that truth only balances on one thing—it never balances, consummate in its existence, its freedom of release, the raw knowledge of that, casting all else aside for what it is, and all wasted deceptions along our way into the light.”
(Villanova Pennsylvania: April, 2013)
Late September
Late September holds onto the summer,
like that promise you made,
—you can never forget
Late September holds onto the summer,
as shadows fall distant,
—and memory regrets
(Train: Amherst Massachusetts- September, 2013)
