WOMAN

David Grubb

I stand and look not at an angel or a goddess

Neither do I look upon a queen or a princess

You stand above them all with style and élan

What do I look upon, just a woman?

A gentle kiss upon the head

And all ills disappear as a child is put to bed

A kiss upon the cheek love and affection shown

To the young and some a little more grown

A sparkling tear gliding down a cheek so fair

Sometimes sorrow or deep despair

Another tear, same cheek and a look so coy

Heartfelt happiness and you radiate joy

A tender smile that says I am glad to see you

A look from the eyes that say what is this I hear of you

A thousand looks with which to talk

A thousand looks and a thousand thoughts they invoke

You hands light and soft to hold

To kiss the hands gentlemen are spurred to actions bold

To a small child confidence these hands give

When held out to a lover, a reason to live

Your arms around a man and he is king

His head on your breast gentle serenity you bring

Talk gently and he hears angels sing

Let him look in your eyes and all the joys of life you bring

They are a thing of joy and beauty, are they not? Appreciated this fine poem, David.
