A Note Of Bravery

Tia Davis/テイア

I HAVE RECENTLY SEEN SOME VIDEOS ONLINE AND THE NEWS AND SOME COMMENTS AND ACTIONS THAT HAS HAPPEN TO AFRICAN AMERICANS RECENTLY. AN PERSONAL EXPERIENCE AS WELL. IT STABBED ME RIGHT IN THE HEART IT UPSET ME ON HOW PEOPLE CAN FEED ON ANY RACE WITH NO REASON. I KNOW AFRICAN AMERICANS ALSO CAN BE RACIST TO CAUCASIANS I DON'T SUPPORT THAT. BUT I CAN ONLY TALK ABOUT THE THINGS I CAN UNDERSTAND OR HAVE FELT. MY POEM I AM GOING TO EXPLAIN HOW I FELT AT THE TIME AND IM NOT TRYING TO INSULT ANYONE SO IF YOU FEEL LIKE THIS IS GOING TO MAKE YOU ANGRY YOU ARE WELCOMED TO NOT READ IT THIS IS TAKING A LOT BRAVERY TO DO THIS SO THANK YOU AND ENJOY

My skin to me is just a cover something that is matter-less though at first that is what it seemed

Somehow my skin is seen as many different things

Some positive so many negatives and wrongs

No one told me before that my skin was a flaw

Police would curse or beat the people that look similar to me in color

Although you wouldn’t think of such a thing

So you ignore but it all comes back into place

A young man leaves a store with a smile on his face

That is what I seen but I guess the police seen different

They figured he was smiling because he had robbed and left with a gun in hand

So they shot him instead

He is now dead a true story told short

A sad story people can’t admit

The police officers were suspended with pay for that awful mistake

Now I know where I stand

My skin is worth less then the dirt I stand

It is seen as many things

Yet people don’t understand

My skin is not a bullet

My mind is not a scam

My hands are not violent

Everyone is not the same

We are all different in many ways

Individuals never seem to come to mind when you think of my skin type

I guess to me at first it seemed matter less

But now my skin has a meaning

One that is personal to me

I see strong

And a fight for freedom

Not a bit but completely

I see beauty

And scares with stories

I see a person who once was a child who has mom and a dad

I see a person  who works just like everyone else no different

I see a human

A Beautiful Human Being

Something some just can’t see

When I look at my skin I see me

A girl who has a wonderful family

Im a individual there is only one me

MY SKIN IS ALSO A BEAUTIFUL THING
