Societies Standards

Dxmenxque

Society’s standards are desires.
Desires that we all crave so much to fill.
But the only thing that seems to fill is my tear ducts.
As I compare my photo to the Instagram model I was always told to look up too.
But never be like because her lifestyle is dangerous.
Society is the desire that can never be filled within us.
Desire is what kills us.

Beautiful piece. Very thought provoking. The damage that society can cause to people, young women in particular, is horrible. “Normality is a paved road: it’s comfortable to walk, but no flowers grow there” - Vincent Van Gogh. Thank you for sharing.

What a nugget of truth you expose here! You're right. There are several desires which are killing me right now.

      Thank you so much !

I too shout at societies standards, for they are fake and just wishful thinking.
Instead of crying over how you can't fulfill them, instead take joy in crushing them and being you!
      Overall a very good poem!
