Along The Execution Mile

Edthepoet

Next traitor!..went up the call
On your knees face me
Back to the wall
As he breathed the first
Of five last breaths
Five
The only image
Conceived in his head
Was one of the child he left
Four
As the trigger
Slowly was squeezed
Three
He turned to face stage right
To the man with sadistic eyes
Caressing a camera and light
Two
As the flash lit up the night sky
Through the lens a message he sent
One
As the bullet approached his face
From it a smile did radiate
He forever froze himself in time
He forever froze himself in grace
For not defeat his child will see
But the hero who set them free

The night a picture spoke a thousand words
And a smile did change the world
In one last act of defiance
Along the execution mile.
