Divided We Stand

PowerPoetry

Please help the soldier who lies awake at night

going through hell to do what is right

we can act like we understand, we can pretend

but you've never had to hold your dying best friend

like "soldiers kill children, that's a bond they share"

but I don't see you enlisting to go over there

it's easy to act like secrets they keep

aren't the reasons they can't go to sleep

when really they've seen what nobody should see

over there protecting both you and me

I thought America would finally see the day

where nobody cared if you're black, white, or gay

instead we insist on hating each other

when really we should help our oppressed brother

I thought unity was how this country was shaped

but now we act like it's normal to be raped

like "you can speak about it, but not too loud

we don't want to hurt our image of proud"

how come we don't protect our women, we're the guys?

rather we're the ones giving them the black eyes

so under America we're all equal and free

well, unless the government doesn't want you to be

Wow! Very powerful. You contain a lot of wrongs and injustices here. As a Brit reader i see similar in UK and Europe. Protest voices such as yours have to be heard.
