the cold can bring terrible pain
where we need to hold onto to our will to not bust that vain
the harder i try i just feel strain
as it is hard for the snow to stay plain
a day of rain can wash those sins away

Many days of rain have rinsed my soul. I find it cleanses and, just as you describe, takes away the cold cold surface its so easy to live beneath.
