SHE

denxse

s a SHE
She smiles
But inside a broken child hides
She tries to run away but her past always finds
A way to bring her 2 steps back and define her
Way of talking
She tries to run away but her past always finds a way to design a wall that she stays closed in
It's absorbing her and she's sinking
She's rehearsed this scenario she knows she's overthinking
She's drowning and everyone is swimming
She doesn't know she can choose her fate
She doesn't know she can pick the last date
Of this attack
She doesn't know that she has the choice to remove the worry and pain
That she has the choice to unpack
Because that choice was once locked in a man made cave
So her self worth began to rot away
And the maggots would feed on her self-confidence as it started to decay
That's when she became labelled
Labelled as unstable
Because she couldn't disable the memories that enabled her to be mentally stable
So she had no choice but to engulf the label
She doesn't know that she doesn't have to be a statistic
she has faith in the label she was given
she has the right to a better quality of living
But like an ex lover the past is unforgiving

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem comes from personal experience about how trauma at a young age affected me as an adult. And how my perception on my diagnosis at the time led to self destruction.

An all too familiar scenario. But putting it down in words is therapeutic and a step in the right direction. Great writing.
