My Friend

Edward Charles McDevitt

Mostly good things come to mind when thinking about you,

Yet sometimes a negative one will come to me too.

Frankly, I don't mind what others have to say,

Really their opinions will not affect or sway.

I love you for who you are not what I want you to be,

Even though they try to get deep inside of me.

No one can tell me who I can or cannot befriend,

Despite what anyone says you're mine until the end.
