Broken Promises

jonnyc1

Broken promises, smothered lies fester in the dark
A shattered heart, guilty tears liter the past
A mother runs, life is lost, alone in a park
Empty spaces, bruised shadows always to last
Searching warmth in any one, in any way
Holding tight, gripping hard not to fall
Blinding fear, shredding guilt erase the day
Hopeless dreams, fractured thoughts shroud the wall
Sun born days blind the faith, sharpen the rain
Empty breaths, shallow tears strangle the soul
Dry drops pour from the wine, still circling the drain
A suffocating hand reaches through a collapsing hole
Tired eyes scan what was lost, what there is to gain
Craving a pulse, searching for a love that will exist
A weightless hope to live again, to finally begin
Endless strength to take the steps, courage to form a fist
A smile, a wishful stare and a longing will, once again.
