Green Waters

Baylee

I’ll come back to you.

Promises:

a crystal glass;

delicate and breakable

Either empty

or full

Perhaps half full

or overflowing

You present to me

this crystal glass

in the cupped hands

which hold my face;

Clutching me close in the cold river water

Your promises

shining as bright as your eyes

and certain as your arms

Clear as your love for me

and full as your smile

Now you’ll always know

I could never forget

those promises made

in the green waters

of your gaze.

    The analogy of eye color to that of water, nicely played.

    Nicole, this is beautiful! I like both the writing and the metaphors.
