Rays of Sun

Tirzah Juarez

As my chin ascends towards the primordial heavens

The sunlight is shattered amongst the tops of the trees

It is an ocean of kamikaze waves

Sacrificing their battered bodies

to make love to the rocks

The rogue droplets slither down between the leaves

Forming into beams of sniper lazers

becoming fixed on all of my body

Their lead cone heads shall infiltrate the fibers of my shirt

And tattoo my chest with their

self-portraits

The exit wounds will mold me new

tear ducts that'll reside on my spine

My lungs shall fill up with wax

from a melted crayon box

And I'll know the beauty of drowning on land.
