Shadow's Gaze

seeker123

There he lay, his eyes fixed on the horizon

The sun that once rose from his predawn silence

Now sinks back into guarded caves

That even a stone’s throw couldn’t faze.

As mist smothers glassy waves

The moon’s die is cast

And he is trapped beneath the shadow’s gaze.

His heart speaks a fading rhythm, an offbeat drum, of war, of pain,

Of what he lost and gained.

Never did it speak of love,

For him it was a sky born dove,

For never could he admit he loved.

All he did was run away, his face turned south,

His back shielding the wall of doubt

Escape wasn’t written in his stars

For his shadow always binds him behind the bars.
