Times past when Man was but a child
And Nature was both huge and wild
There lived few men who heretofore
Knew not the threat of global war
Perhaps this was the time to live
For then would Nature to them give
All that was good for mind and soul
Beneath the strife of modern life
They did not roll
But soon Man reached his early teens
Fire came to him by chance-like means
The axe of stone and then of metal
Did in war his nerves unsettle
Then came the Maxim gun
That splattered carnage at the Somme
And now the deadliest of weapons
The nuclear bomb forever beckons
Is this the end of Progress Way
That wound forever and a day
That winds until will quickly cease
When Man has run his aged lease

Nice!
Or will it be something far more messy? Provokative writing well executed.
