Words

Bluedog783

Words, oh words
From mammals to birds
Here and there
Please take care
Many uses you shall find
Many ties you shall bind

Near and far they will be
From him to her and she to he
Circling and swarming
Freezing to warming
Stanza to line
Oak or pine

Words, oh words how many there are
From ruby to diamond and comet to star
Though they seem so bright and true
They have a dark side of black and blue
They’ll drag you down under
And tear your home asunder

So don’t be fooled my dear friend
Words will always be in the end
From sunrise to sunset
Until your match is met
They will always last
And haunt you from your past

  • Comment from author about the poem: This is a poem that I wrote in my senior year of high school for a poetry competition. I had literally zero inspiration until the night before it had to be submitted. That night the extremely vague, yet valid option of "words" formed within my mind, thus birthing this poem.
