Until Now

MikeyA18

It felt so good
to let it go
I know it felt the same
to you.

We've butted heads
a million times
but that what
families do.

I wanted you
as a friend
but it always turned
so wrong

Until now.

You're the man I looked up to
In spite of all the rage.
I was afraid of upsetting you
so I stayed in my cage.
I wanted to be like you
I promise, it's my vow.
I thought growing up with you was torture
Until now.

I love you more
than words can tell
I have trouble
speaking up.

We are too much
like each other
That caused some
dire blowups.

I always thought
I messed it all up
And sorry wasn't
allowed.

Until now.

You're the man I looked up to
In spite of all the rage.
I was afraid of upsetting you
so I stayed in my cage.
I wanted to be like you
I promise, it's my vow.
I thought growing up with you was torture
Until now.

We've always had it rough!
We've destroyed eachother
But in the end
We're still son and father.
There's a lot of things
We'd love to redo
But I don't wanna lose
my memories with you.

You're the man I looked up to
In spite of all the rage.
I was afraid of upsetting you
so I stayed in my cage.
I wanted to be like you
I promise, it's my vow.
I thought growing up with you was torture
Until now.

It felt so good
to let it go
I know it felt the same
to you.

  • Comment from author about the poem: My dad and I never had an easy relationshiop. We constantly butted heads about everything andat the same time, I wanted him to know I wanted so much to be like him. I looked up to him through all the terrible things we have done to each other. We both have done and said thing to each other that we both regret. Years later, I had the opportunity to tell him everything that has bothered me over the years and now we have a great father and son relationship.

Taking your story and letting it become art, well done.
