Smoke and Mirrors

Edthepoet

I'd never seen such beauty
She knocked me out flat
I didn't have the money
To make her love me back
Poetic gestures won't cut it
She deserves more than that

Id never seen such grace
She's surely sent from above
I didn't have the vision
To make her fall in love
A promotion won't do it
Her man works for no one

I thought that I
Knew what she wanted
I thought that I
Knew what she liked
Turns out that I
Was fighting the wrong fight

She said boy you're a damn fool
Blinded by smoke and mirrors
Step back into the real world
And say what you really mean

On the day we met
Do you know what turned my head
It wasn't what you were wearing
It was those words you said

On the night we collided
Do you know what caught my eye
It wasn't what you could offer
It was the fire burning inside

Great insight expressed in this one, Ed. Very well done! Love it.

Thank you Louis. I think it's fair to say I earned the insight the hard way 😀

        Is there another way?

Daft isn't it...you meet someone who amazes you in the way you feel about them, you're stunned like a rabbit caught in the headlights.... suddenly youre not you anymore..... feeling like you need to step up a notch.... Then she says one magic thing and you realise.... she's already marked you out. Great writing again Ed.
