This Love

Adrianna Kjeld

I'll skip the "Dear" and "Hello".

I want you to look me in the eyes,
and never tell me how much you love me.

I want you to take me on simple dates,
where we can laugh and appreciate,
appreciate some time together in this incredibly short existence.

I want you to see me cry;  the good and the bad.

I want you to look up that song you've never heard,
by the band you'd've never guessed was a thing,
even if your only comment is, "I might".

I don't want you to yank on my heart strings,
but I'd choose that over them tearing.

I don't want your confessions of love,
but I don't want your silence.

I want your embrace,
but  remember some days I need space.
There will be times our love will die, soon after it hopefully revives.

I know its not what you signed up for when you said,
"Would you like to go on a date sometime?"

but I took it to heart, gitty and blushing
I can't describe it, what better thing to say than, "I'm crushing."
But know I've been here. Right here, before.
When I thought love was an open door.
Someone else ensured tears would fill my cheek's pores.
But here I am, again, only slightly sore.

Adrianna, nice poem, you tell it how it is! Love the last line! No matter what happens to us, there will be a time when that door needs to be open again.

I believe Fred said it best, :You tell it like it is." Some of us wander through many doors, before finding the prize. Sort of like Monty Hall used to say, "Will it be Door #1, 2 or 3?" Love is a fickle penny, you never know where you will find it. Your poem describes a kind of love we all seek, a shared love, one of trust and understanding. I've often described it as a love that requires no forgiveness. First time I've read your stuff, will return for more. - Phil A.
