Frank Sinatra

Adrianna Kjeld

I melted in his arms,
as Franky sang, "I love you baby"
on a loop in my mind.
Only moments before,
words like, "why are you so far away"-
on the park bench,
under the ''land before time" trees.
And when I scooted closer,
feeling his sweet  relief,
as I nuzzled my head in his shoulder.
Him wrapping his arm around me,
pulling me in closer,
"I've gotcha" he'd keep saying,
so reassuring.
My words came stuttering out,
trying to carry a conversation,
my stomach rising and dropping,
like a roller coaster.
My sub conscience set on thinking-
thinking of a future,
as he spoke of us,  and not like "you and I".
Our first date and he's so sure I'm the one,
the one he wants to be with.
How could I not say yes?
Yes, to this perfect imperfection.

  • Comment from author about the poem: You accept one person's heart, only to break another. It's how it goes unfortunately...I am sorry. I didn't know I wanted someone until I met him.

Beautifully written Sunrise. I love it. ; )

Adrianna, I like how you lead into the poem with Frank Sinatra. It sets the tone right away. First dates can be beautiful (or a disaster). Also like the line where you compare the 'us' to the 'you and I', it is a distinction many people might not even realize.
Very good poem, I like it a lot.

Thank you so much, I'm gonna cry, haha, oh my gosh.
I am so thankful for your thorough visibility of my word choice, and I am slightly petrified cause I just sent this to the guy its about, and I am shaking.
