A Glittering Tragedy by Charlie O'Malley
We open on a hot summer night
The stars everly shining
A place to dismiss all fright
A place for True Love's pining
The word is happy and gay
The sadness is small and little
A crone passes away
The bards are harp on the fiddle
A boy cries out to the moon
A pendant shines in the dark
A witch casts a spell of gloom
A ruby cracks, becomes sharp
The clock resets tonight
Behold, this awe-some sight

- Comment from author about the poem: I created a new style (I think) called Non-Iambic Sonnets, which are Shakespearean sonnets, so 14 lines, ABAB CDCD EFEF GG rhyme scheme, but not in iambic pentameter.\r\n\r\nThis sonnet was going to be the beginning of a play called The Crone\\\'s Wish, but I lost interest in the play, and I liked the sonnet, so I thought I\\\'d keep it. It starts the first of many Non-Iambic Sonnets I will be writing. \r\n\r\nIt represents how quickly things change, and it could also be interpreted as how things aren\\\'t as pretty as they might seem. For the first seven lines, the poem describes \\\"a hot summer night\\\" and how beautiful it is, and the last seven lines describe the evil things going on. This could be seen as the beauty being corrupted, and also how the beauty is a facade for the evil within. Interpret it as you like. I, for one, intend it to be the latter interpretation, but, really, make your own opinion.
