Growing Into Older Life.

kevin browne

When after losing the ability to function growing into older life
With all those years falling wayward towards a memory loss
Departing from decades where everything seemed alright
Feeling left alone when days started cracking up without knowing
The old rocking chair is filled with arms that comfort disability
Blankets dream and cover up the visionary dilemmas of tomorrow
Where a cup of tea and a slice of cake becomes the norm now
their lonely but romantic as they struggle down the snakes and up the ladders
failing hearts are dusting up inside where another hurt begins
Sons and daughters rally round sparing every minute they can
Looking after Father whose eyes are closed forever in his sins
A pain grows with grace beside everything that gets's in the way
Throw another cover over the waves that keep rolling over them
But twinkles in Granddad's eye keeps him smiling all the while
Pick a Rose red flower for Mother no longer knows who anyone is
And those door hinges screech with a silence trying to remember
Where names become others who hold the key to youthful sports
Looking out the window and witnessing landscapes walked on
Where once roamed with school friends who can only comfort now
And as the finality of knowing what is setting into deeper grieving
Family rustle together to communicate in the lonely world of need
A stage in life where beauty fits into every movement a parent has
With leaking bodies touching on the floor around them, so sad it is
There is nothing left to do to help apart from showing how to love
That we have learned and copied footsteps that we have taken
Worn out kisses left to distinguish how to settle a no-return policy
And in the hearts of these unfortunate, shadowed times ahead
Their generosity surpasses anything which is an abstract thought
We keep on picking up the pieces when we notice a dying Rose
So in letting go finally we see the peace of life living in paradise
And in saying that one last hurtful but a very important goodbye
For that madness has left the souls of people who lived life fully
And in taking a moment of silence we can now begin our prayers
Another Hallelujah has written a miracle in the face of learning.

So well written, Kevin, but scaring the you know what out of me!!!!
What you so aptly describe could be just around the corner!!!

but the acceptance of knowing we all have the unpleasantries of life creeping in with old age. I just wanted to highlight how and if we can that we do it very gracefully indeed. give rise to the opportunity of saying thank you and a goodbye to life before the final stages of our lives because we lived it.

Easy for you to say! I don't mind becoming old (what choice do I have?), but don't want to end up being a burden on my kids, a tottering old fool, requiring 24-7 help. In that case it probably would be better to just walk down to the ocean and start swimming!

A thought provoking read Kevin - letting go and saying a last goodbye is something to face as time hurries on -- a sincere and honest verse

which we all must embrace as that moment moves closer x
