Growing old and tough until we decide to wash off its stain
A mark forever left behind, a painting of all that had been lost

They definitely remain, I've been washing mine and making my change. I'm sure with words and the vision like yours there's going to be a flood clearing them all so it can be seen, what time has let be forgotten but never left.
