the biggest comeback that ever happened in brockport

Some nights in this shit town on this shit canal

You can feel alive

Like you can feel eternity

wrapping around the crumbling Victorians

Manifesting in the worlds loudest chevy cavalier

Screaming out melodic muffler issues

It will cement the moment

Monuments on these streets are parked cars and

faded blue signs

Wiping ash on pavement for weekly Ash Wednesday

Anoint this parking lot

Where the cats have returned angrily

Finding me and sprinting

Those skulking sentinels have taken up their watch

My decaying apartment

With no yard and crash tested couches

Leaky faucet in a janitors closet

Has its own faded blue sign

The two stray cats that arrive when I write

The feline eyes and parked cars are mascots

Monuments and sentinels in obstacles and fentanyl

Losing my mind on busted stone stoops,

I see visions of canal waters and beleaguered drunkards stuck in crystalline loops.

Cursed with noise from siren and bugs

This town that never settles keeps you jumping through hoops.
