Living One Day At A Time

Accidental Poet

Like two magnets

Pulling on my heart

Memories of yesterday

And tomorrow eager to start

Though I try

To give equal time to each

I find them both

Just out of reach

Like an old photograph

My memories worn with age

I’m a living photo album

My life’s history on every page

And of memories yet to be

I’ll discover them for sure

Everyday a new salute

As I earn my life’s tenure

But I can’t live in yesterday

And tomorrow is not yet mine

The here and now is where I am

Living one day at a time

  • Fay Slimm.

Such a wise and inspiring read - "living one day at a time" is all we need - - a super piece and into my favourites.

A fine write for 'now' and for the future AP. I'm still wasting time trying to find 'now'. When it's the next moment, the previous moment's 'now' has gone, and it's a new 'now'.
Have I finished? I never started! heehee.
Doh! I've had too much sherry. lol.

OK orchi, you're shut off, no more sherry for you. ; )

It is what is said: why worry about tomorrow if today is all we have?
Great writing AP. Let's live in the now and make the best of it.

            • Accidental Poet

Thanks malu, I do try to live as best as I can in the here and now. But as my poem says both the past and future pull on me too. The future, of things that need to be prepared for like finances and health. And the past mostly for enjoyment of the memories that are lifetime highlights. Thanks for reading. ; )

I like your excellent poem a lot, AP! There are times when it is kind of hard to live in the now, since the past or the future seem to be pulling so hard. But living in the now, one day at a time as you say, is what we have to do!
              Great poem, well written, Kudos!

              • Accidental Poet

Thanks Fred. And "now" that all my yard work is done, I must lay down my weary body in a chair and enjoy a frosty cold one. Thanks for reading and commenting. ; )

one day at a time,i guess that`s all any of us can do. life is not fair, love is not guaranteed.we accept what we have been given

Good write. Now is the time to live yesterday has gone and tomorrow will surprise you but we each have to live in the moment.

                    • Accidental Poet

Yes Goldie, moment to moment because if you blink, you could miss something you've waited your whole life for. ; )
