Ground Birds

Ground Birds

Where should a good bird be

Should he always sit in trees

No sometimes on the ground

Many good birds are often found

See the robin running ‘round

Where should a roadrunner run

Of course on the road in the sun

His racing ‘round great to see

But never in a great big tree

And what about a meadowlark

Should he perch there in the park

Sometimes yes and happily too

in meadow grass in morning dew

Then what about the quail

Running round with their little tails

Are they ground birds when they fly

Fast into a cloudless sky

Yes quail are ground birds too

When they fly each afternoon

to another grassy place

Where on the ground they can run and race

A bird is a ground bird when

A broken wing won’t do him in

But motivate him to just lie low

And run real fast when a predator in tow
